What an account is actually for.
Not a newsletter and not a profile page. It is what makes a visit provable, and what a proved visit is then worth.
A record you did not write
A check-in is judged where you stand, by a service you do not control, against a boundary surveyed for that place. What builds up is worth something precisely because you could not have typed it in.
Badges for the ground behind you
Only verified visits count toward one. What each badge asks for is published up front; the exact set of places that satisfies it is not, because that would be a farming guide rather than a reason to travel.
